Sébastien Lecornu spent only 27 days as Prime Minister – the shortest term in French history.

On Monday morning, French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu resigned. This was announced at the Elysee Palace on October 6.

“Sébastien Lecornu has resigned from the post of Prime Minister of his government. The President of the Republic has accepted this resignation,” the statement said, quoted by French media.

Thus, Sébastien Lecornu spent only 27 days as Prime Minister – the shortest term in French history.

He is expected to make a public statement in the near future.

As is known, Lecornu completed the formation of his cabinet only yesterday, October 5. He said that this government must unite society and create a base of support in parliament, finding a compromise with the opposition.

Recall that on September 9, former Defense Minister Sebastien Le Corneille became the new Prime Minister of France. He is the fifth Prime Minister in the past two years. Previous heads of government lost their positions due to the failure of attempts to pass budgets that provided for a sharp reduction in the deficit – the largest in the eurozone.
